Blue Jays Swept by No.2 Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team ended their CVC weekend down in Virginia Saturday as No.2 Southern Virginia defeated the Blue Jays, 3-0. 

The first set started close with Elizabethtown leading, 8-7 after a Knights serivce error and Nate Seeger service ace. Southern Virginia grabbed the next eight points to jump to a 15-8 lead. Kills from Logan Smith and Nick Chapman brought Etown within five of SVU. The teams traded points but the Knights already held a substantial lead. Alex Finch smacked down the Blue Jays final kill as they dropped the first set, 25-16. 

Southern Virginia took a commanding 8-0 lead to start set two. Chapman and Smith added kills for Etown to bring the score to 13-4. Elizabethtown continued trail by at least ten through the remainder of the set as SVU won, 25-10. 

Elizabethtown gained back some momentum starting set three as the two teams went back and forth. Multiple Knight errors and a kill from Smith tied up the set, 6-6. Southern Virginia then pulled ahead 15-7 after going on a 9-1 run.  Etown had managed to go on a 7-1 run towards the end of the set as they crept closer to the Knights.  Finch, Mason Boyer, Chapman, and Smith all recorded kills in the final points as SVU won set three, 25-21. 

Elizabethtown ends the regular season next week in three straight conference matches. The Blue Jays will travel to Juniata on Wednesday, March 27.
