Buffs Down the Bears – University of Colorado Athletics

LOS ANGELES — Colorado women’s volleyball defeated Cal in four sets (25-16, 19-25, 25-20, 25-16) here Friday night, earning its seventh straight win against the Golden Bears.
 
The Buffaloes (16-7, 8-5 Pac-12) downed the Bears (7-16, 0-13 Pac-12) with another strong defensive performance, recording 16 total blocks and holding Cal to a .139 hitting percentage.
 
Maya Tabron had the only double-double tonight with 12 kills and 11 digs. Lexi Hadrych led CU on the offensive end with 14 kills, and Meegan Hart led the defensive end with nine blocks. Hart also had seven kills while Tabron and Hadrych each recorded five blocks in the match.
 
Alexia Kuehl had a fantastic hitting performance as she racked up 10 kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Colorado also saw strong numbers from Sterling Parker who had four blocks and seven kills while hitting .412.
 
The Buffaloes were able to make a big impact in the error column here on the road. CU committed 17 less errors than the Bears, with 13 compared to Cal’s 30.
 
Colorado will look to get its fourth straight win in a matchup against Stanford on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
SET ONE: Colorado started the set by taking a 7-3 lead over Cal. CU held a comfortable lead throughout the set and led by eight points at 19-11. The Bears fought back with a three-point scoring run to cut their deficit to five at 19-14.  The Buffs scored back-to-back points to make it 21-14, forcing Cal to take its second and final timeout of the set. Kuehl picked up her fifth kill of the set as Colorado led 23-15. Hadrych scored the final two points for CU as the Buffs reached set point and then won the set 25-16. Colorado outhit the Bears .357 to .172 in the set.
 
SET TWO: Cal jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the set. The Bears continued their success and took a 14-7 lead. CU faced a 21-12 deficit before scoring three straight points to make it 21-15 and force a Cal timeout. Shortly after the timeout, a Buffs service error gave Cal set point. Colorado scored another three straight points to make it 24-19, but it wasn’t enough as Sydney Lilomaiava racked up her sixth kill to win the set for Cal 25-19.
 
SET THREE: CU forced a Bears’ timeout early in the set after taking a 7-2 lead. Cal cut its deficit to just two at 9-7 before the Buffs scored three points, making it 12-7….
