Card Blocks Tar Heels – Stanford Cardinal

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A career-high 12 blocks by Sami Francis led No. 7 Stanford in a sweep at North Carolina, 25-13, 25-10, 26-24, Sunday, in Carmichael Arena.

As a team, Stanford (23-4, 15-3 ACC) posted a season-best 16.0 blocks en route to its sixth straight sweep. The defensive onslaught forced North Carolina (20-7, 12-6 ACC) to a -.091 attack percentage for the match.

Francis racked up 12 blocks, including three solo, while hitting .462 with seven kills. The middle blocker from San Diego is averaging 1.71 blocks per set in ACC play.

Outside hitter Elia Rubin led the team offensively with a match-high 13 kills on .522 hitting and 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. The junior also tallied four blocks and an ace.

Setter Kami Miner dished out 32 assists and had four blocks, a kill and two aces. The senior also registered eight digs, including the 1,000th of her career. She becomes the 20th player in program history to reach the milestone.

Outside hitter Ipar Kurt chipped in with eight kills, two digs, an ace and a block, while opposite Jordyn Harvey finished with eight digs, four blocks and two kills.

Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew posted four kills and four blocks for the Cardinal. Libero Elena Oglivie collected seven digs and two assists, while defensive specialists Anna Pringle and Taylor Beaven combined for five digs.

The Cardinal improved to 3-1 all-time against the Tar Heels, picking up its first win over North Carolina since 1997.

Up next, Stanford remains on the road, traveling to Atlanta to face No. 15 Georgia Tech on Wednesday at Noon PT.
