China snap USA win streak; thrilling wins define Day 4 of men’s qualifier

The fourth day of the 2024 WPV Sitting Volleyball Final Qualifiers for Men, presented by Delin Company, saw action-packed matches that concluded with a brilliant four-set win by the home team.

On Saturday, the day commenced with an electrifying clash between Poland and Canada, where the Canadian contingent demonstrated their dominance to post a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-20) win over their European counterparts.

It marked Canada’s third consecutive triumph at the Dali International Olympics Centre, showcasing their unwavering resolve after an initial setback on opening day against their North American neighbours United States. Poland are still searching for their first win in the tournament.

Iraq and Croatia locked horns in a fiercely contested match, culminating in a hard-fought victory for the Croatian squad. Despite the effort from Iraq, Croatia prevailed 3-1 (25-13, 15-25, 25-17, 27-25), bouncing back from their narrow defeat to Canada earlier in the competition. With this win, Croatia secured their third victory.

The following showdown featured Ukraine, squaring off against Japan. Determined to rebound from their previous loss to the United States, Ukraine delivered a commanding performance, securing a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19) victory over the winless Japanese squad.

The highlight of the day unfolded as hosts China clashed with the United States team. The home team halted USA’s winning streak, emerging triumphant with a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20) win. This remarkable feat not only ended the USA’s undefeated run, but also propelled China to secure their second consecutive win, revitalizing their pursuit of Paralympic qualification.
