Colorado Volleyball Adds One New Buff On Signing Day

BOULDER – Colorado women’s volleyball signed one student-athlete Wednesday, head coach Jesse Mahoney announced.

The Buffs added Gwenyth (Gwen) Schiff, a 6-1 pin hitter from Urbana, Ill. She played all four years of high school volleyball at Urbana High School, and she spent her club seasons with Prime Time and Illini Elite. While playing with her club teams, she made the all-tournament team at various tournaments and earned an All-Star award at AAU Nationals. Her team also earned first place in the Ruby Division for 17 Open at 2023 AAU Nationals.

“It’s a small class for the moment, but it certainly packs a punch,” Mahoney stated. “Gwen is a powerful, dynamic athlete who will thrive here in Boulder. She has experience at both pins, but as a lefty she projects as a true opposite hitter in our system. With her quick footspeed and arm swing, she has the potential to be very successful in a tempoed offense.”

Additionally, Schiff made the USAV Great Lakes Region All-Star Team in June 2022, was named to Prep Volleyball’s Top 150 in 2022 and 2023, and was invited to the NTDP Great Lakes Region Accelerator.

Off the court, Schiff enjoys reading, shopping, fashion, and content creation. During her time at CU, she intends to earn a degree in business. Schiff stated that she chose CU because of the campus’ amazing facilities, the incredible staff, the school spirit, and the beautiful view of the mountains.

Although signing day is over, Coach Mahoney commented that he and his staff are planning on bringing more Buffs into the fold before next season.

“We are still actively recruiting for the 2024 class and expect to announce further additions this spring,” Mahoney said.
