Cortland Defeats Oneonta in Three Sets for Seventh Straight Win

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women’s volleyball team won its seventh straight match and remained unbeaten in SUNYAC play with a 25-14, 25-8, 25-17 victory over visiting Oneonta.
 
Cortland improved to 18-5 overall and is 6-0 in the SUNYAC. Oneonta fell to 7-15 overall and 0-5 in the league.
 
Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) led Cortland with 10 kills and added seven digs, while Jennifer Koestner (Syosset) posted nine kills and five digs. Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) had six kills, a .400 attack percentage and a team-high five blocks. Kira Pirrera (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) finished with three blocks.
 
Samantha Rodriguez (Camarillo, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) led Cortland with 15 assists, followed by Ryan Hinshaw (Aurora, IL/Joliet Catholic Academy) with 12 assists. Hinshaw also had nine digs and Rodriguez finished with seven. Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) paced the Red Dragons with 11 digs and four aces, Alyssa Rich (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) had three aces.
 
McKenna Law led Oneonta with six kills and Anna Moller had 13 digs.
 
Oneonta led 9-7 in the first set, and the teams were tied at 13-13 before Cortland finished the set on a 12-1 run. Cortland burst out to leads of 8-0, 13-1 and 19-3 in the second set. The third set was tied at 15-15 before Cortland scored on an Oneonta service error, a Rich service ace and an Oneonta attack error to go up 18-15. Cortland wrapped up the set and the match by scoring seven of the final eight points.
