Cortland Eases Past Plattsburgh in Straight Sets

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten in SUNYAC play with a 25-8, 25-14, 25-11 victory over visiting Plattsburgh.
 
The Red Dragons (9-3, 3-0 SUNYAC) hit .297 as a team (32 kills, 10 errors in 74 attempts) while holding Plattsburgh to a minus-.164 attack percentage (11 kills, 22 errors in 67 attempts). Cortland finished with eight blocks in the match, led by Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park) with three solo and two assisted blocks and Alexa Guedez (Rye/Rye Neck) with three assisted blocks.
 
Guedez and Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) led the Cortland offense with seven kills apiece. Julia Pugliese (Wantagh) added six kills, three aces and four digs, with Pugliese and Staats each totaling two assisted blocks.
 
Carly Haegele (Commack) and Megan McMahon (Ballston Spa) shared the team lead with four aces each. Cortland finished the match with 15 aces. Haegele also led the Red Dragons with eight digs. Meadow Wittman (Colden/Springville Griffith Institute) had 15 assists, two aces and four digs, and McMahon tallied seven assists.
 
Kyleigh Ganz led Plattsburgh (4-7, 0-2 SUNYAC) with four kills and Shannon Fitzpatrick had five digs.
 
Cortland only trailed once the entire afternoon. The Red Dragons led 7-0 to start the first set and, after the Cardinals closed to within 8-4, went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-4 lead. Plattsburgh led 2-0 to start the second set, but Cortland scored 12 of the next 14 points to go up 12-4 on the way to the win. Cortland held a slim 13-10 lead in the third before rattling off nine straight points to take control.
