LOS ANGELES – Anna Dodson scored a game-high-tying 14 kills and four blocks as the UCLA women’s volleyball team fell to No. 8 Stanford in straight sets (22-25, 23-25, 19-25) at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Saturday night.
Prior to first serve, the Bruins (14-11, 8-8 Pac-12) honored their five seniors, Matti McKissock, Mackenzie Cole, Tristin Savage, élan McCall and Anna Dodson.
Iman Ndiaye was UCLA’s second-best hitter with eight kills at .333.
Leading the Cardinal (20-4, 15-1) attack was redshirt junior outside hitter Caitie Baird who collected 14 kills for a .316 clip.
After UCLA put itself into a 7-1 hole in set one, the Bruins made a comeback led by the middle blocker Dodson. Dodson hit three consecutive kills for the Bruins to put them within one, two coming on an over-pass thanks to the solid serving by Mackenzie Cole. It was Cole’s 7-0 run at the service line that gave UCLA the lead, 18-17. Dodson recorded eight total kills for the Bruins in their set one loss.
UCLA and Stanford matched each other step by step from points 12 through 20 in set two. An ace by Matti McKissock put the Bruins within one, 24-23, before a kill by Stanford’s Elia Rubin ultimately won the set. Dodson once again led UCLA in the second…
