Ducks Take Third at Husky Invitational


SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon beach volleyball team battled past Portland Sunday afternoon to finish as the third-place team at the Husky Invitational. Both of the Ducks’ matches came down to the last match in play. Oregon suffered a 3-2 loss to Boise State in the semifinal round before responding with a victory over Portland.
 
Individually, Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton pushed their team-leading total to 18 wins this season while Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown became the third UO pair to reach double-digit wins.
 
Up Next: Oregon and Portland will meet for a third time in a span of six days when the Ducks host the Pilots on Thursday, April 20, at Amazon Park. The Senior Day matchup is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
 
Boise State 3, Oregon 2
 
In a rematch of the Husky weekend opener, the Ducks lost in similar fashion to Boise State with the dual coming down to the final match on court. Sunday marked the fifth meeting this season between Oregon and Boise State, and three have finished as 3-2 results.
 
The Broncos opened the scoring at No. 5 pairs but Tyus and Wetton got Oregon on the scoreboard with a 21-13, 23-21 win on court two to tie things up. The back-and-forth continued with Boise regaining the lead with sweep at No. 3 and the Ducks pulling even again—2-2—with the win by Almanza and Brown at the top of the lineup.
 
However, Boise State struck the final blow with a 21-18, 21-16 triumph at No. 4 pairs. The setback sent Oregon to the third-place match against Portland who lost to No. 13 Washington in the other semifinal.

Tyus and Wetton continued their winning ways and put the Ducks ahead 1-0 with a straight-set victory over Jayde Harris and Noelani Helm. The UO pair won four of five in Seattle over the weekend.
 
The Pilots grabbed the point on court three to tie the dual but Almanza and Brown picked up a second win of the day. The duo shook off a loss in the first set to post a 19-21, 21-3, 15-11 victory over Annika…
