Bosnia and Herzegovina emerged victorious in a thrilling 3-1 (26-28, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23) battle against Egypt in the opening men’s sitting volleyball match at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Thursday at North Paris Arena.

Mirzet Duran was the star of the match, delivering a dominant performance with 21 points, including 18 powerful attacks and three aces. Safet Alibasic added 16 points to the tally, contributing 13 attacks and three blocks, while Ermin Jusufovic chipped in with 15 points, marked by 10 attacks, four blocks, and an ace. On the Egyptian side, Hesham Elshwick led the offensive charge with an impressive 24 points, keeping his team in contention throughout the match.

In the opening set, Egypt managed to edge out Bosnia and Herzegovina 28-26, with Elshwick leading the way. Despite several strong plays from Duran and Alibasic, a few crucial errors by Bosnia and Herzegovina allowed Egypt to take the first set.

Bosnia and Herzegovina bounced back in the second set, claiming a 25-19 victory. Duran’s relentless attacks and Alibasic’s solid blocking were key in turning the momentum in their favour, as they levelled the match at one set apiece.

The third set was another tight contest, but Bosnia and Herzegovina managed to pull ahead with a 25-23 win. Jusufovic’s well-timed blocks and Duran’s continued offensive pressure helped secure the lead in the match.

In the fourth set, Bosnia and Herzegovina maintained their composure under pressure, once again winning 25-23 to seal the match. Duran’s consistent dominance and the team’s overall resilience proved too much for Egypt, who despite Elshwick’s efforts, could not force a fifth set.
