Edwin Sosa Earns Empire 8 Player of the Week Honors After a .430 Hitting Percentage


ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, as Edwin Sosa ’25 of the Elmira College men’s volleyball team earned conference Player of the Week honors after helping the Soaring Eagles to a 2-1 record at the Elmira Invitational this past weekend. 

Sosa, a junior middle blocker from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was Elmira’s lead attacker over the weekend, compiling 46 kills over three matches for a .430 hitting percentage. Against Drew on Friday in Elmira’s 3-0 victory, Sosa went for 13 kills and 2 errors for a .550 hitting percentage. Additionally, he collected a block in the match before posting a 22-kill match against SUNY Potsdam, which eclipsed his career-best by eight kills. Against the Bears, Sosa posted a .432 hitting percentage, which included four digs, three set assists, two total blocks, and a service ace.

Sosa wrapped up the weekend on Saturday against Kean, recording 11 kills, two digs, and a block in Elmira’s 3-0 loss. 

The Soaring Eagles return to the floor this weekend when heading to Dallas, Pennsylvania to take part in the Cougar Kickoff Classic, hosted by Misericordia University. Elmira is set to play four matches over two days against Rutgers-Newark. Nichols, New Jersey City, and Drew.
