Gallaudet blazes past Hood in homecoming match for MSD grads


FREDERICK, Md. – The Gallaudet University women’s volleyball team made the trip here Friday afternoon for a non-conference match against Hood College. The two teams trade set wins to start before the Bison took the third and fourth sets for the 3-1 win; 25-15, 17-25, 25-16, 25-18, at the Volpe Athletic Center.

Gallaudet (12-10) had strong attack hitting sets in the three sets it won and struggled in the second set with seven attack errors. The Bison came out of the gates hot with the 25-15 set win as they recorded 12 kills and five service aces. 

The Bison were led by junior Emily Wright (Penn Valley, Calif.) and freshman Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) with 17 and 13 kills each, respectively. Lummer added six digs, three aces and two block assists. Junior setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 25 assists, made six digs and four aces. Junior libero Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas) led the team with 15 digs.

The match served as a homecoming for the Frederick, Md., natives; Lummer, junior Cassidy Perry and sophomores Hannah Weiss, Ariella Zfafi as the quartet attended the Maryland School for the Deaf prior to coming to GU. 

Hood was paced by Caitlin Ambruster who finished with 17 kills, nine digs and two block assists in the loss.

  • Three different Bison had three block assists; Perry, Wright and sophomore Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.)
  • Gallaudet has won five straight matches

UP NEXT
GU will begin United East Conference play tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 8) at Penn College as the Bison face St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the host Wildcats at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.
