Griffin, McAlister Wrap Up Successful Weekend at AVCA Fall Pairs Championship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Utah beach volleyball athletes Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister earned the program’s first-ever bid to the AVCA Fall Pairs Collegiate Championship where the duo placed 27th.

Griffin, who is preparing for her freshman season, joined sophomore McAlister as partners and kicked off the event with a 2-1 record in pool play, which advanced the Ute duo to the championship bracket. Griffin and McAlister defeated FIU’s pair 21-11, 21-16 in the second match of pool play, before downing Arizona State’s pair 24-22, 21-13. Utah’s sole loss in pool play came at the hands of TCU’s duo (21-13, 21-18).

On Saturday, McAlister and Grifin fell to a duo from Florida State in the opening round of the Gold Bracket, and then to a Cal Poly pair. Looking to close out the weekend strong, the Ute duo picked up a 27-25, 21-17 win over a pair from Pepperdine before falling to the same TCU pair they had played in pool play. The Utes finished 27th in the field of 64 after going into the event as the 58th-seed.
