Cortland senior Hannah Southcott (Princeton, WV) has been honored as the 2021 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award winners are selected from each of the SUNYAC’s 20 sponsored sports. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.30, be a starter or significant reserve on his or her team, and have an academic class standing of sophomore or higher.
Southcott is a speech and hearing science major with a 3.91 cumulative GPA through the end of the 2021 fall semester. She was the 2021 SUNYAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year and an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honorable mention All-America and first team all-region selection. She also was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team and the SUNYAC all-tournament team.
Southcott finished the season with 385 kills, a .270 attack percentage and 272 digs in 100 sets. She registered double figure kills in 22 matches. Southcott helped the Red Dragons finish with a 27-4 record, win the SUNYAC title and advance to the NCAA Division III tournament second round to tie for 17th place nationally.
