SEATTLE— The University of Washington Beach Volleyball team opened the Pac-12 North Tournament on Friday at Alki Beach with a win against No. 12 Arizona State 3-2 and a 4-1 loss to No. 2 Stanford.
Arizona State Dual
Zoey Henson and Lauren Wilcock (No. 2) won the first match of the dual against the No. 12 Sun Devils, coming back and winning two straight sets after dropping the first one 17-21. In the second set, the duo jumped out to a lead and never lost it, winning 21-15. Henson and Wilcock landed consecutive aces during a 5-1 run in the second set. The duo followed up the great second set win with an even better 15-5 win in the third set.
Scarlett Dahl and Natalie Martin (No. 4) traded points back and forth with ASU as the duo split the first two sets. The pair continued their success in the third set, taking a 5-3 lead and maintaining it to win 15-12.
Kierstyn Barton and Kendall Mather (No. 3) sealed the upset after trading sets to open the match, both ending 21-16. The Dawgs faced three lead changes in the first eleven points, then the pair pushed the lead to four, winning 15-11.
Stanford Dual
The Huskies challenged No. 2 Stanford, as every single Husky pair forced a third set against one of the best teams in the country. The Beach Dawgs ultimately lost to the Cardinal 4-1, but Henson and Wilcock (No. 2) came back and won two straight sets for the Dawgs. Henson and Wilcock responded to every one of Stanford’s attacks as they were tied 7-7 before they pulled ahead to win 21-16 in the second set. The duo went back and forth before the Dawgs pulled ahead 15-13 in the third set.
