SEATTLE— After a promising opening day, the Huskies lost in the championship round today of the Alki Beach Invitational, falling to No. 15 Georgia State on Saturday 2-3. The disappointing loss came after the Huskies had built on a six dual winning streak heading into the championship on Saturday. But they fell in a nail-biting final third set. Overall, the Huskies posted a 4-1 overall record this weekend at home, which puts the Huskies in a strong position for the rest of the season.
Oregon Dual
The Huskies opened the semi-final playoff dual against number four seed Oregon 4-1. The Huskies quickly dispatched the Ducks by winning three matches in two sets. The win was highlighted by Zoey Henson and Lauren Wilcock building their winning streak to eight matches. The Huskies then advanced to the championship.
Georgia State Dual
But that victory wasn’t enough. After beating the Ducks, the Beach Dawgs fought valiantly against GSU before falling in the final match.
The loss was highlighted by two match victories in that dual. Henson and Wilcock (No. 1) extended their winning streak to nine with their two-set victory.
Kendall Mather and Kierstyn Barton (No. 3) also picked up the final win off the day, winning in two sets. The dual came down to the day’s final match, the 5s, which featured three different tied scores, before GSU pulled ahead for good, ending the Dawgs hopes for a home-field championship
Up Next: The Huskies will play a doubleheader against Pacific on Wednesday, April 17th in California.
