Huskies Go Down In Three At Utah

Colorado

SALT LAKE CITY – Washington’s first match in Salt Lake City in three years won’t bring a newfound fondness for the Huntsman Center as the Dawgs dropped a straight set match to the Utes to slip out of a first-place tie in the Pac-12. The 15th-ranked Huskies had four chances to tie the match at a set apiece, but when Utah pulled out the wild 30-28 second set, Washington was unable to turn it around in the third.

UW was swept for the first time this season by a 25-21, 30-28, 25-16 count. The Dawgs’ typically potent offense was held to a .190 percentage, while Utah hit .349. It’s just the second time this season the Huskies hit under .200 in a match. Utah had six more kills, 48-42, and had a 6-4 edge in aces and a 54-44 lead in digs. Blocks were 8.0 to 7.0 for the Utes.

Claire Hoffman had 12 kills and Emoni Bush had 11, while Ella May Powell had 36 assists and 13 digs. Kate Morin chipped in 11 digs. Marin Grote had eight kills and five blocks.

UP NEXT: Washington will need a big response in Boulder on Sunday as Colorado is off to a great start in conference as well at 5-2. The Huskies and Buffs will play at 11 a.m. Pacific time, airing on Pac-12 Networks…
