BOULDER, Colo. – Washington Volleyball collected its first sweep of the season to start off the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge today in the Rockies, handling the Iowa Hawkeyes, 25-15, 25-21, 25-19, at the CU Events Center. The Dawgs hit a rock solid .340 and held Iowa to a .187 mark.
Claire Hoffman led the team with 13 kills, Madi Endsley added 10, and middle blockers Sophie Summers and Marin Grote had seven apiece. Washington (2-1) got a big effort from senior Shannon Crenshaw, who moved into the starting right side role today for the first time and had a team-high 15 digs, plus six kills on a .308 attack percentage, and three blocks.
“Being flexible and being composed and poised is part of who Shannon is and we’ve asked her to play every position and she always finds a way to contribute,” said Head Coach Keegan Cook. “In the opposite role I thought she was outstanding as an attacker, a receiver, and a defender. She affected the game in every facet.”
“We had some complications this week but found a way to get better and be comfortable and make progress despite the fact that we had to make some adjustments. Our sideout percentage was pretty elite. I believe we can become an elite defensive team and we’re seeing signs of it. We wanted to see some growth there and I think we did today.”
