Huskies Win Gold and Silver Division Titles to Open the Fall Season.

SEATTLE— The Washington Beach Volleyball team opened day 1 of the Alki Pairs tournament by winning the Silver Division and Gold Divisions. The Husky-on-Husky Gold Finals match highlighted the depth of this beach program. Zoe Henson and Lauren Wilcock took the crown in two sets against Scarlett Dahl and Natalie Martin.

In the early morning hours, the Huskies posted four victories in the pool round. First year Beach Dawgs, Henson and Wilcock started the day with a perfect 3-0 start in pool play. The pairing of Scarlett Dahl and Natalie Martin brought home the second undefeated pool round for UW. Kendall Mather and Brooke Balue followed up with another spotless pool play record. Graduate student Josie Ulrich and freshman Ella Wimmer rounded out the pool section wins with a 2-1 match record to win their pool.

As the playoffs got underway in the afternoon, the format switched to a best of 3 series from the single match format of the pool round. Mather and Balue brought home the second win of the day in a back-and-forth match against Pac-12 foe, Arizona, in three sets to take home the Silver Division. The Huskies claimed two of the three possible division victories as Henson and Wilcock brought in two sets. Saturday’s action featured the Beach Dawg debuts of 9 student-athletes, who played at least one set today. Huskies will play again on Sunday at 9 a.m.
