Indiana Volleyball Set For Foreign Tour In May

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball announced on Thursday that they will embark on an 11-day European Tour May 23 through June 3 that includes stops in Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, and Italy.

“This tour is a fantastic opportunity for our program to compete against some of the world’s best and travel to some amazing countries. We are fortunate to work with Tim Kelly and his team at Bring It Promotions as they provide a first class experience for our entire travel party,” Head Coach Steve Aird said. “We are excited for the spring and the group we have in our gym. Our goal is to compete at the highest level in May. We are excited to develop chemistry and grow as a program over the 11 days in Europe. Our program is forever grateful to our administration for the support and commitment to help us build this program.”

The Hoosiers will kick off the tour with three nights in Prague, Czech Republic. While in Prague, Indiana will play two matches against Czech teams. They will visit the Prague Castle, Charles Bridge as well as Old Town Square.

Next, Indiana will take a day trip to Vienna, Austria before spending three nights in Maribor, Slovenia. The Hoosiers will play three matches against visiting national federation teams from around Europe.

Also in Maribor, they will visit Old Town and eat at least one meal in a mountain hut on the Pohorje Mountain. As part of the experience, they will descend the mountain side via an Alpine Slide.

The next stop on the tour will be Venice, Italy for a full day of sight-seeing before moving on to Verona for lunch and a tour of the Coliseum there and sights from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

The last stop will be in Milan, Italy where the Hoosiers will play two matches against Italian national federation teams. The team will also take in a list of sights while in Milan. The Duomo, which is the cathedral of Milan, is dedicated to the Nativity of St Mary. The Galleria San Vittorio is Italy’s oldest active shopping gallery and is a major landmark of Milan. The Opera Theater La Scala and Sforza Castle will round out the tour.

On June 3 the team will depart Milan and head back to the United States.
