Jennifer Koestner and Emma Reilly Earn Weekly SUNYAC Volleyball Awards


Cortland senior outside hitter Jennifer Koestner (Syosset) and junior middle blocker Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Sept. 15.
 
Koestner totaled 29 kills for an average of 4.14 kills per set, a .390 attack percentage, and seven service aces in seven sets during a 3-0 week for the Red Dragons. She also contributed 14 digs, three blocks, and was 18-for-19 on serve receptions. Koestner’s top performance of the weekend came in a sweep over John Carroll on Saturday, registering 16 kills with a .452 hitting percentage, one ace, and four digs and a block. Later in the day, she chipped in 11 kills, three aces, seven digs, and two blocks in a sweep of Kean. Playing in just the first set in a sweep over SUNY Poly on Friday evening, Koestner had two kills, three aces, and three digs, and led a 14-0 run for Cortland to start the match at the service line.
 
Through 26 sets over nine matches this fall, Koestner leads the Red Dragons with 98 kills (3.8 per set) and has a .236 attack percentage.
 
Reilly earned the league’s weekly defensive honor for the second straight week. She recorded 15 total blocks in eight sets for an average of 1.88 blocks per set. She also chipped in three digs, eight kills and a .182 hitting percentage. Her top performance came in a sweep of John Carroll on Saturday, totaling eight blocks, one kill, and one dig. She also added five more blocks in a sweep over Kean and added five kills on nine attempts for a hitting percentage of .333. Playing in two sets on Friday in a sweep of SUNY Poly, Reilly had a pair of blocks, including one solo, and two kills on three attempts to go along with one dig.
 
Reilly leads Cortland this season with 42 blocks (1.6 per set) in 26 sets over nine matches. She also has 44 kills and a .362 attack percentage.
 
Cortland (7-2) has won six straight matches. The Red Dragons will play at the Messiah Invitational in Pennsylvania this weekend, starting with the host Falcons on Friday and matches against Rowan and Gettysburg on Saturday. Cortland defeated Gettysburg in the NCAA Division III tournament first round last season and beat Rowan in the 2022 NCAA first round.
