Korey Schroeder Named Cougar Volleyball Head Coach

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University Director of Athletics Pat Chun announced Friday that Korey Schroeder has been named the Cougars Head Volleyball Coach. Schroeder becomes the 13th head coach in modern program history.

“We are excited to name Korey as our head volleyball coach,” said Chun. “Korey brings a new energy and passion for WSU Volleyball. It was clear throughout this year he had earned the respect of our team and was a key component in the overall success of this past season. We look forward to watching Korey lead and build our volleyball program.”

This past season, Schroeder served as the Cougars’ assistant coach, having a hand in one of the best years in program history. The Cougars went 26-8, reached the Round of 16 of the NCAA Championship, posted seven Top-25 wins, and reached a ranking of No. 4 before concluding the season ranked No. 11 nationally.

“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead Washington State Volleyball into the next chapter of the program’s storied history,” said Schroeder. “Thank you to Pat Chun and [Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA] Anne McCoy for giving me their confidence and supporting me throughout this process. In my first year at Washington State, the energy I have felt from the Pullman community, Cougar fans, and the individuals within the Washington State Athletic Department has been phenomenal.  They are all reasons why Pullman feels like home, and it is the same reason our student-athletes love their experience at Washington State. We have a group of high-character players returning next season and I am excited to build on the foundation we will create together this spring.”

During the 2023 season, in addition to coaching, Schroeder organized recruiting databases and created recruiting content, ran statistical analyses of WSU and future opponents to maximize match planning, and implemented the use of NeuroFuel for improved mental performance during practice and competitions.

Schroeder joined the Washington State women’s volleyball staff as an assistant coach in the spring of 2023. He made the move to the Palouse after being a part of three 20-win seasons over the previous five years as the women’s volleyball associate head coach/ recruiting coordinator at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.
