KYRGYZSTAN STAY UNBLEMISHED AT CAVA MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER 3-0 SHUTOUT OF TAJIKISTAN

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 19, 2024 – The second day of the single round-robin preliminaries at the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship at JAR Sport Complex saw exhilarating performances as hosts Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan captured their second consecutive victories, strengthening their positions in the tournament.

Kyrgyzstan beat Tajikistan 3-0

Kyrgyzstan dominated the match from the start, overpowering Tajikistan with a solid 3-0 victory. After a comfortable first set win 25-13, Kyrgyzstan maintained momentum through the second set, which they won 25-12.

Despite some resistance from the opponents in the third set, Kyrgyzstan played well defensively and offensively and their cohesive team play and strong defense left Tajikistan struggling to find answers. Kyrgyzstan wrapped up the set 25-18 and match.

Kanybek Uulu played a key role in the Kyrgyzstan’s victory as he chipped in 17 points from 14 kills, two blocks and one ace, while Ghulomaliev led Tajikistan with 11 points, all in attack.

Turkmenistan beat Maldives 3-2

Turkmenistan endured a hard-fought battle against the Maldives in what became the most dramatic match of the day. As Turkmenistan made a strong start to take an initial 25-18 win in the first set, the Maldives fought back gallantly to take the next two sets 25-23 and 25-21, badly needing only one more set to win the match. However, the Maldives let the win slip through their fingers.

Turkmenistan regrouped in the fourth set and performed impressively for an exceptional 25-15 win, forcing the tie-breaker. In the thrilling decider, Turkmenistan remained in fine form, leading all the way to close it out 15-8 for the eventual 3-2 victory. The resilience of both teams kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Bayramgeldi Veyisov delivered 20 points from 16 kills, three blocks and one ace  for Turkmenistan. Didar Nuryyev and Mithun Gulyyev kept good company to add 17 and 14 points respectively. Sajid Ismail was the most productive player of the Maldives to score 16 points including 15 kills from 45 attempts.

Uzbekistan beat Afghanistan 3-1

Hosts Uzbekistan delivered an impressive performance in front of their home crowd with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Afghanistan. As the first set ended with a relatively comfortable 25-20 for Uzbekistan, the second set was more thrilling as both sides traded attacks and points.
