Lewis Men’s Volleyball Drops Match Against Loyola Thursday


CHICAGO – The Lewis University men’s volleyball team suffered its first loss in the month of March after losing 3-0 to Loyola on the road Thursday night.

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Loyola 25, Lewis 22

  • The first set started off with both teams trading points, finding themselves tied at six.
  • After Lewis took a 8-6 lead after a Christian Prayer (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) kill, Loyola scored five straight points. Two of which came from kills and three from errors committed by the Flyers.
  • Lewis called a timeout and regained its composure to retake the lead at 14-12. The Flyers scored on six of its next seven plays, including two kills by Prayer, one by Syver Drolsum (Vikersund, Norway/Toppvolley Norge) and one by Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence).
  • Moments later with the set tied at 19, Loyola managed to score six of the remaining nine points to win the opening set.

SECOND SET: Loyola 25, Lewis 20

  • The second set began with Loyola capitalizing on four early Lewis errors, giving the Ramblers a 6-3 advantage.
  • Lewis was able to cut the Loyola lead to two on multiple occasions but couldn’t take the lead or tie the score the entire set.
  • The Ramblers held off Lewis scoring four of the final five points to close it out.
  • Prayer led the Flyers in the second set with five kills.

THIRD SET: Loyola 25, Lewis 20

  • To begin the third set, Roquet got a kill the opening possession assisted by Tyler Morgan (Dike, Iowa/New Hartford).
  • Tied at four, Loyola went on a 5-1 run that gave the Ramblers a 10-5 advantage.
  • Cole Brillhart (York, Pa./Northeastern) later notched back-to-back kills to help the Flyers cut into the lead.
  • Lewis would manage to come back and tie the game at 17 before Loyola went on a 5-0 run to force a Lewis timeout.
  • The Ramblers scored three separate kills to close the set and sweep the Flyers.

FINAL SCORE: Loyola 3, Lewis 0
 
UP NEXT

  • Lewis will return home for a three-game home stand, beginning with Purdue Fort Wayne at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.
