Lewis Men’s Volleyball Holds On To Defeat Erskine in Five Sets Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The Lewis University men’s volleyball team was up two sets before Erskine fought back and won the next two before the Flyers won the fifth and the match 3-2 Friday (March 10) at Neil Carey Arena.

SET BREAKDOWN

FIRST SET: Lewis 25, Erskine 20

  • Both teams scored four points each to start the opening set before Erskine went on a 6-0 run.
  • Lewis bounced back and got six unanswered of their own capped off by a block from Kauling and Simpson it tie at 10-10.
  • The match went back-and-forth for the next 12 points, which tied it at 16-16.
  • Davis picked up a big service ace, which gave Lewis a 19-16 lead. 
  • The Flyers won the first set after Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove HS) recorded a kill. 

SECOND SET: Lewis 25, Erskine 23

  • The second set went back-and-forth with both teams scoring nine points.
  • The Flying Feet went on a 5-1 run to pull ahead 14-10. 
  • Lewis responded with a 7-1 run capped off by a service ace by Drolsum for a 17-15 lead.
  • Erskine rallied once more to take a 20-19 lead before Lewis stormed back and won the set 25-23.
