Lewis Men’s Volleyball’s Mitchem And Kauling Named To NVA/AVCA DI-II All-America Team


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Monday (May 1) that Lewis University’s Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) and Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) were named to the NVA/AVCA DI-II All-America team. Mitchem was named to the first team while Kauling was named to the honorable mention team.

Mitchem earns his third straight AVCA First Team All-American honor after being named to the All-MIVA First Team. He averaged 3.25 kills and 1.37 blocks per set this season while his .447 hitting percentage is seventh in the country. Mitchem is third in the nation in blocks per set. Out of Lewis’ 19 all-time AVCA All-Americans, he is the fifth to pick up at least three awards.

Kauling earns his second AVCA All-America honorable mention honor and third overall. He averaged 7.83 assists, 1.47 digs, 1.17 kills and 0.55 blocks per set this season. Kauling recorded two triple-doubles during the season which was tops in the country. He led an offense that hit .290 as a team which is 17th in the country.

The Flyers finished the season with a record of 16-12 and advanced to the semifinal round of the MIVA Tournament.
