ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University fifth-year senior libero Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division II Volleyball First Team on Friday (Dec. 17). She is the first player in program history to be named an Academic All-America multiple times and is the 57th player in school history to earn the prestigious honor.
Poppen holds a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average with her exercise and movement science major. Statistically, the two-time Academic All-America selection was fourth in the NCAA in total digs with 775 and sixth in digs per set with 6.46. She was second on the team with her 32 service aces, helping Lewis advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the 15th consecutive season. Poppen was a Third Team Academic All-America selection this past spring.
On the court, she was named a D2CCA All-America second team selection and an AVCA All-American third team choice following her senior campaign. For her career, she has two All-GLVC First Team honors and is two-time GLVC Libero of the Year. Poppen was the GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year this past spring and is a four-time Academic All-GLVC selection. She is also a four-time recipient of the Br. David Delahanty award, given to Lewis student-athletes for academic excellence.
Poppen is the program’s single season and career leader in digs with 775 and 2,133 respectively.
The seven members of the Academic All-America Division II volleyball first team have an aggregate undergraduate GPA of 3.93. Nineteen of the 21 Academic All-America selections played in this year’s NCAA Division II Tournament, including six first team members.
Lewis finished its season with a record 26-7 overall and 17-1 in the GLVC. The Flyers won the GLVC regular season title and extended its record by winning its 11th GLVC title defeating Missouri-St. Louis in five sets in the championship match.
CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-Program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
