ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team lost 3-2 Saturday night after an intense match against Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponent Maryville.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. Maryville

Set 1: Maryville 25, Lewis 23

Maryville scored the first point of the match off of an attack error by Januski. Lewis turned around an scored six points to the Saints’ one thanks to two errors and kills by Alvey, Buxton and Ray with a combined block by Buxton and Ray. Lewis held a good lead and the set went back and forth with the Flyers roughly holding a four point lead. 

Lewis held a 16-10 lead after two kills from Alvey and Ray, what followed was seven point run from the Saints which gained them the lead. Both teams exchanged a two point run which saw Lewis momentarily gain the lead from a kill by Alvey and a Maryville attack error. The Flyers put together a few more points to round out the set, but the Saints took the first victory of the afternoon. 

Set 2: Lewis 25, Maryville 22

A block by Januski started the second set of with a Flyers lead, the Saints responded with a block of their own to tie it at one. After some short exchanges Lewis went on a four point run from two attack errors and two kills by Ray. The Saints interrupted the run with a quick point, but the Flyers hit the scoreboard with another four point run, this time with kills by Stefanski, Alvey and Ray with a block by Ray and Alvey. 

The Saints put up a few sizable runs to make the set closer, but thanks to a kill by Alvey and a Saints attack error, the Flyers held a 15-9 lead. The two squads battled across the net trading points. The Saints continued to creep towards the Flyers but Lewis held on long enough for Ray to fire a kill to the floor, ending set two. 

Set 3: Lewis 25, Maryville 20
