TROY, N.Y. – The Union College men’s crew team started off its season with a win and Liberty League recognition to lead a pair of weekly conference honorees and four weekly honor roll selections.
Men’s Crew Boat of the Week: Union Varsity 8+
The Varsity 8+ picked up its first win of the season with a time of 13:14.40 to edge out St. Lawrence University by 2.50 seconds and over 46 seconds faster than Binghamton University on the 3,700-meter course during the Mohawk Fall Classic. Union’s winning boat was comprised of senior Sarah DeRosa (coxswain); juniors Sam Flynn (stroke) and junior Nick Meyer (7 seat); sophomores Danny Bender (6 seat), Stuart Livingston (5 seat), Tyler Perry (4 seat), and Wolfgang Bodge (3 seat); and seniors Miles Fee (2 seat) and Alex Chan (bow).
Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week: Allie Kronenberg
Kronenberg had another excellent week in leading Union to a perfect 3-0 record, accumulating 92 assists (8.36/set), 32 digs (2.91.set), eight kills and two blocks over 11 sets. She just missed a double-double to start the week with 32 assists, nine digs and three kills in a 3-1 win over SUNY Delhi to start the week. After going for 28 assists and six digs in a sweep of DeSales, she got her double-double with 32 assists, a season-high 17 digs, four kills and a block in a comeback 3-1 victory over Drew to end the weekend.

Women’s Crew: Union Varsity 4+
Union opened the season at the Mohawk Fall Classic on Sunday with a 3,700-meter race. The Varsity 4+ narrowly edged out Liberty League rival St. Lawrence by 0.82 seconds to capture first with a time of 17:05.59. The Saints clocked in at 17:06.41 with Binghamton University placing third. Union’s winning boat was comprised of junior Melina McGovern (coxswain) and sophomores Sarah Hannan (stroke), Olivia Werkema (3 seat), Emma Friedman (2 seat), and Susanna Harrow (bow).
Field Hockey: Rachel Ostiguy
Ostiguy scored in the third quarter and then assisted on the game-tying goal as Union came back from two goals down to defeat Hartwick in a shootout on Wednesday.
Men’s Soccer: Gio Capellino
Capellino scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in Wednesday’s win over Albany Pharmacy, scoring in the 84th and 88th minute to finish off the scoring in a Garnet Charger victory.
