Michigan State Volleyball Plans 50th Anniversary Celebration Throughout 2022 Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State volleyball program is set to celebrate not only the 50th anniversary of Title IX, but the 50th year of varsity volleyball at MSU throughout the 2022 season.
 
“Our program is excited to honor the history of Spartan volleyball this upcoming season,” head volleyball coach Leah Johnson said. “I look forward to meeting and engaging with all of our alumni who continue to bleed green and white, and whose contributions helped lay the foundation of our program.”
 
In honor of the 1972 enactment of Title IX, Michigan State volleyball will don a special 50^th anniversary logo on its warmups throughout the season. Additionally, the 37 words of Title IX will appear on Michigan State’s practice shirts.
 
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
 
Michigan State’s coaching staff will join the student-athletes by wearing a lapel pin to commemorate 50 years.
 
Volleyball fans will see historical content on social media and msuspartans.com throughout the season as the program looks to share old photos, videos and feature stories from the past 50 years, honoring the past and present of Spartan volleyball. With 20 NCAA tournament appearances, 25 All-America selections, 33 AVCA All-Region selections, 63 All-Big Ten selections and now five Michigan State Athletics Hall of Famers, Michigan State volleyball has plenty to celebrate.

The season-long celebration culminates with Alumni Weekend on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5. Michigan State hosts matches against Purdue and Ohio State that weekend with pre- and mid-match recognitions for alumni during Saturday’s match against the Buckeyes.
 
Michigan State gets its 2022 season underway on Tuesday, Aug. 23 when it hosts the annual Green and White scrimmage at 6:30 p.m. in the Breslin Student Events Center. The Spartans’ season officially starts with the Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational on Friday, Aug. 26.
