No. 1 USC Beach Volleyball Fricassees Fish and Fowl to Open FAU Invitational

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (14-2) defeated Palm Beach Atlantic (9-7) by a 4-1 count and swept No. 16 Florida Atlantic (9-6) in a 5-0 finish on the first day of the FAU Beach Invitational at the Pompano Beach Pier on Friday, March 15. 
 
The Women of Troy won their 10th straight dual to tie the ninth longest win streak in program history. USC met the Sailfish for the first time and improved to 6-0 in all-time meetings with the Owls. In 5-0 matches, the Trojans moved to 147-2 all-time and got their ninth clean sweep of the season. USC also upped its all-time record in the Sunshine State to 21-2 and improved to 140-16 in duals when it is ranked No. 1 in the AVCA coaches’ poll.
 
At the top court, All-American seniors Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple went 2-0 to extend their win streak to 10 matches and their streak of sets won to 20. The duo collected its 43rd all-time victory to move into eighth place in the USC record books. On court two, twin graduates Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse also went 2-0 and won their sixth straight match together to improve to 12-3 on the season. 
 
Freshman Ashley Pater and sophomore Madison White collected a pair of straight-set wins on the day to improve to 3-0 as a pair. The two Trojans first played at the No. 3 position against PBA and then moved to the No. 4 position to get a win against FAU.
 
At the No. 4 position against the Sailfish, sophomores Mabyn Thomas and Gabby Walker took down the PBA pair, 21-13, 21-14, as part of the 4-1 win. Thomas then teamed with graduate Ainsley Radell to get a three-set win over the Owls’ No. 5 pair. Freshman Grace Hong and Delaney Karl entered a dual lineup for the first time this season and played at the No. 5 position against Palm Beach Atlantic, but fell in a narrow three-setter in the 4-1 decision.
 
After not playing the first dual, graduates Maddi Kriz and Grace Seits took the sand at the No. 3 position against FAU and completed a straight-set win for their eighth straight victory and improved to 11-1 on the season.
 
The Women of Troy are back in action when they meet No. 12 Florida International and fifth-ranked TCU on Saturday (March 16) at the Pompano Beach Pier. The Trojans and the Panthers play at…
