No. 1 Vikings Respond with 3-Set Victory Over No. 7 Indiana Tech

Des Moines, IA – Grand View men’s volleyball came out for redemption after their night prior close set loss to The Masters. The Vikings would do just that, defeating No. 7 Indiana Tech in 3 sets with scores of, 25-16,25-23, and 25-23. 

Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Indiana Tech University 16

The Vikings started things off by trading errors with the Warriors until Bayron Valdez (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) would straighten things out and get the first kill of the match. Daniel Galili (SO/Shomrat, Israel) would push the Viking’s lead to 8-4 after another kill. Danny Wong would join in on the action with his teammates grabbing a huge kill set up perfectly by Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ), forcing Tech into a timeout after a big lead advantage at 20-13 for the Vikings. Another kill by Wong and an ace by Meyer would finish the Warriors up in set one, 25-16. 

Set 2: Grand View University 25 l  Indiana Tech University 23

In the second set, Grand View would have to dig itself out of an early hole caused by an early rally by the Tech. The Warriors would climb out to an 11-5 lead until Zeo Meyer would grab a kill and stop the momentum. Nicholas Vattier would take advantage of the Warrior’s errors, bringing the Vikings within 2 after his kill. A Wong ace would force the Tech into a timeout with the Vikings moving back in front, 20-18. A serving error would make Coach Felipe call a timeout, and the Vikings would regather on back-to-back kills by Galili. and the set would be finalized by another kill by Wong, 25-23. 

Set 3: Grand View University 25 l  Indiana Tech University 23 

The Vikings would hurt themselves again early in the third set, falling behind early until Valdez would pick things up getting a kill once again assisted by Meyer. A majority of the third set would go point-for-point, and the Vikings would call early timeouts to try and cut off the rallies by the Warriors. Vattier would give the Vikings a kill and it would cut their deficit to four. A couple of Warrior errors, sandwiched by a kill from Wong and Meyer would tie things up at 20s and force Indiana Tech into a timeout. Danny Wong would get a kill and Dalton Dencklau (SR/Lehigh, IA )’s serve would lead to a Warrior attack error, and the Vikings would once again put the Warriors on their heels and in a timeout.
