No. 11 USC Men’s Volleyball Swept by No. 4 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – The 11th-ranked USC men’s volleyball team (10-7, 2-3 MPSF) was defeated by No. 4 UCLA (13-4, 4-1) in straight sets (25-20, 25-10, 25-14) at Galen Center on Thursday, Feb. 29. The Trojans set a Galen Center attendance record for the crosstown rivalry match with 2,102 in the building.
 
KEY PLAYERS

  • Redshirt Jr. OPP Jack Deuchar led the Trojans with eight kills (3e, 21att, .238) and added three digs and a block.
  • Fr. S Caleb Blanchette put up 12 assists to go with two digs and had two blocks.
  • So. OH Dillon Klein tallied four kills and had two blocks.
  • Fr. MB Wesley Smith recorded three kills and had two blocks.
  • For the Bruins, Ethan Champlin had 10 kills (2e, 20att, .400) and Cooper Robinson put up nine kills to go with four blocks and three service aces. Andrew Rowan dished out 26 assists to go with two blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Trojans collected three blocks and hit .219 in the opening frame, but UCLA claimed a 25-20 win behind .387 hitting and 16 kills despite giving up five points on service errors. Klein and Deuchar each registered three kills apiece in set one. Deuchar added three digs, but USC was outdug, 14-7, in the first.
  • UCLA won set two, 25-10, to go up, 2-0. The Bruins hit .824 with 14 kills on 17 swings.
  • Deuchar had four kills in the third set, but the Trojans were defeated, 25-14, as UCLA completed the sweep. Austin Stuard tallied three digs in the frame.
