THE FLATS – No. 5 Georgia Tech volleyball (6-1) will take an SEC road trip for its second weekend away from home this season, traveling to No. 24 Arkansas (7-1) and Georgia (8-1). The Yellow Jackets and Razorbacks will first square off on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET in Fayetteville, Ark., before this year’s edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate against the Bulldogs on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET in Athens, Ga.

Storylines

  • The Jackets were ranked No. 7 in this week’s AVCA DI Coaches Preseason Poll, joining the 2003 and 2020 squads to tie the fourth highest mark in program history.
  • Tech’s selection marks the fifth consecutive appearance in the AVCA’s top 10 after being tabbed No. 8 at the end of the 2021 season and landing among the nation’s best in each of this season’s four polls.
  • The Yellow Jackets have been listed in 42 straight top 25 polls to date.
  • Tech most recently split a top-10 weekend in its home hosted Georgia Tech Classic. The White and Gold breezed by previously No. 10 BYU for the first sweep of a regular season top-10 opponent in program history. The win was also the fourth regular season top-10 victory all-time. Including postseason play, the Jackets now own six top-10 triumphs, sweeping No. 9 seed Ohio State as recently as 2021’s Sweet 16.
  • Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann currently leads the nation in kills per set (5.54) and points per set (6.33).
  • The decorated Jacket eclipsed 1,300 career kills over the weekend, currently owning 1,326.
  • Bergmann put up her third and fourth 20+ kill outings of the season against top 10 teams in formerly No. 10 BYU and previously No. 8 Ohio State. As the Jackets swept the Cougars for their first top-10 win of the season, the outside hitter led the match with 20 kills on top of nine digs, two aces and two blocks. Those 20 kills and 23.5 points marked the most in the ACC in a three-set match this season. Bergmann followed that with another match high of 21 kills and a pair of digs against the Buckeyes.
  • Overall, Bergmann garnered Georgia Tech Classic all-tournament honors after piling up 41 kills (5.86 per set), 11 digs, two aces and two blocks (one solo, one assisted).
