No. 8 Ohio State Travels to Cardinal Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (0-2) travels to Louisville, Ky. this weekend for the Cardinal Classic.

  • Ohio State was ranked eighth in this week’s AVCA poll, with three other Big Ten teams also in the top-10.
  • Ohio State was selected to finish fourth in the Big Ten preseason poll, behind Wisconsin (defending national champions), Nebraska (2021 national runner-ups) and Minnesota.
  • Senior setter Mac Podraza, junior opposite Emily Londot and junior middle Rylee Rader were selected to the preseason All-Big Ten team following successful 2021 seasons.
  • In Emily Ehman’s Big Ten preseason top-20 individual rankings, Podraza was chosen as the top player in the league with Rader fifth, Londot seventh and libero Kylie Murr 16th.
  • Ohio State looks to bounce back in the second weekend of play at the Cardinal Classic after losing to (now) No. 1 Texas in back-to-back matches to begin the season last weekend.

  • No. 15 San Diego moved up 10 spots in this week’s AVCA poll after going 3-0 at the Texas A&M Invitational.
  • The Toreros knocked off No. 6 Pitt in the season opener in a five-set thriller, taking the fifth set by a 15-8 mark after Pitt pushed the fourth set to extras in order to force a fifth set.
  • This will be the first meeting in program history between Ohio State and San Diego.
  • No. 3 Louisville moved up one spot in the weekly AVCA poll after sweeps against Northern Kentucky, South Dakota and Missouri to open the season. The Cardinals went on to sweep No. 22 Western Kentucky on the road on Wednesday evening.
  • Ohio State has won all six previous meetings with Louisville, though the two programs have not played in two decades.
  • The Buckeyes and Cardinals most recently met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus in 2002, when a 19th-ranked OSU team swept the unranked Louisville team in the programs’ only post-season meeting. The two programs have never played in Louisville.
