Cal Beach Volleyball Coach Retained Through 2027
BERKELEY – California beach volleyball head coach Meagan Owusu has signed a three-year contract extension, it was announced Thursday. Owusu, who finished her seventh season at the helm in 2024, is now inked through the 2027 season.
“Thank you to (Cal Director of Athletics) Jim Knowlton and our administration for the continued support in our program,” Owusu said. “I am thrilled with the opportunity to continue building the beach volleyball program here at Cal. Getting to coach my alma mater is really a privilege and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”
Owusu is the program’s all-time wins leader with a record of 153-78 (.662) who has set a new standard for the program over the last few seasons. The Golden Bears have received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship in each of the last three years and have picked up first-round wins the last two years. Those two first-round wins led to Cal earning its highest AVCA Coaches Poll finishes of seventh in 2023 and 2024. The Bears have finished top 12 or better in each of the last nine seasons.
“We are thrilled to extend Meagan’s contract and continue building the elite program we have established under her leadership,” Knowlton said. “Meagan helped build our program from the ground up and has put us among the top programs in the country. We are excited about the future under Meagan’s stewardship.”
Owusu has broken the program’s single season wins record on three occasions, most recently in 2023 when Cal went 29-10 and earned its first trip to the final round of the Pac-12 Championship. Under Owusu’s direction the Bears have earned 13 All-America honors and 15 All-Pac-12 honors.
