PITTSBURGH – The Pitt volleyball team have been named the PNC Achievers of the Week after clinching a share of the ACC Championship for the second consecutive season. The Panthers swept Miami at home and Syracuse on the road en route to their fifth ACC title in seven years.
Pitt clinched a share of the ACC title following their dominating win at Syracuse on Friday night winning 25-8, 25-12, and 25-13, freshmen Olivia Babcock and Torrey Stafford each recorded nine kills. Babcock also finished with six digs and a career-high five aces on the evening as she earned her sixth ACC Freshman of the Week award. Emma Monks earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performances in Pitt’s final two conference games. Monks averaged 1.67 blocks per set and 1.5 kills per set, hitting .429 in the final week of conference play. She recorded seven blocks and five kills in the sweep over Miami and followed that up with four kills and three blocks in the 3-0 win at Syracuse.
The Panthers will host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament at the Petersen Events Center, Pitt will square off with Coppin State at 7 p.m. in their First Round match up. With a win, the Panthers would advance and face the winner of USC vs. UMBC in the Second Round. If the Panthers would continue to win, they will host all the way up to the Final Four.
