Red River Athletic Conference – RRAC selects volleyball players of the week for Oct. 4-10

WACO, Texas — Taylor McGee of Xavier University (La.) was selected as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Oct. 4-10. Madelynn Strzelczyk of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) was recognized as the RRAC Setter of the Week, and Xavier’s Linda Mungai earned the RRAC Defender of the Week award for the same dates. This is the seventh set of weekly awards for the 2021 RRAC volleyball season.

McGee posted one of the best weeks of her career with 19 kills as the Gold Nuggets split a pair of matches. The junior outside hitter from Sacramento, Calif., was a career .145 hitter entering the week and posted a .314 attack percentage including .400 in a three-set sweep of Jarvis Christian College (Texas). McGee averaged 3.2 kills per set for the week including 11 kills in the JCC match and eight in a loss to William Carey University (Miss.). Xavier moved to 5-1 and the top spot in the RRAC East Division, while holding a 5-6 mark on the season. 

Strzelczyk averaged 12.0 assists per set in a 2-0 week for the Saints. The sophomore setter from Marion, Texas, recorded 96 assists including 59 in a 3-2 victory over Huston-Tillotson University (Texas). Strzelczyk also chipped in 18 digs and had a double-double in a three-set win over Schreiner University (Texas). She ranks 14th nationally with 10.5 assists per set this season. OLLU leads the RRAC West Division with a 6-0 record, and the Saints are 12-3 overall. 

Mungai became the first XULA player to reach 20 digs in a three-set match in nearly two years. The sophomore libero from Busto Arsizio, Italy, scooped 24 digs in a losing effort against WCU. It was Mungai’s fourth match with 20 digs this season, and she finished with an average of 6.2 digs per set for the week. She is 67th in the NAIA with 4.7 digs per set.
