Saints Sweep York To Finish Labor Day Classic

ABEREDEEN, S.D.—The Presentation College Saints went 1-3 over the weekend facing a tough road schedule. PC finished the tournament with a strong 3 set sweep over York University, Saints move to 2-8 on the season.

Match 1 | EVANGEL | 18-25, 12-25, 25-19, 24-26

In the first match of the weekend, the Saints took on Evangel University. Despite the Saints strong third set win, the Saints dropped the match 1-3. The Saints attack was led by Maggie Heesch (SO/Watertown, SD) with 10 kills followed by Grace Tobin (JR/Mason City, IA) with 9 kills and Makyah Albrecht (FR/Bozeman, MT) with 6 kills. Laura Babcock (SR/Aberdeen, SD) controlled the defense with 26 total digs. Presentation out attacked EU 143-137.

Match 2 | CONCORDIA – NE | 14-25, 14-25, 22-25

To finish the day Friday the Saints faced host Concordia. The Saints out attacked the Bulldogs 104-98, but despite the Saints efforts they dropped to the bulldogs in 3 straight sets. Defense would be led by Babcock with 16 digs, Sydney Miller (SR/Battle Ground, WA) and Cassidy Kelley with 7 digs a piece. Heesh would tab 18 kills and post a .444 kill percentage.

Match 3 | JAMESTOWN | 14-25, 22-25, 20-25

On Saturday the Saints faced off against the Jamestown Jimmies, the Saints dropped in three sets. Posting 40 team digs, 25 team kills and 6 team blocks wouldn’t be enough to top the Jimmies. Tobin lead the Saints attack with 24 total attacks and 9 kills. Babcock posted 20 digs leading the defense followed by Tobin with 7 digs.

Match 4 | YORK | 25-23, 25-19, 25-13

To close out the tournament the Saints faced the York University. The Saints would dominate the Panthers in a 3 set sweep. The Saints outhit York 104-94 and posted 45 kills to the Panthers 32. Presentation posted a better total match killing percentage by .150%. The Saints posted a .361 kill percentage in the 2nd set and bested their own set kill percentage in the final set at .481. Tobin lead the Saints attack with 16 kills, Kerstin Knopik (SO/Little Falls, MN) followed with 11 kills.

The tournament completion brings the Saints record on the season to 2-8, averaging 11.50 kills per set, 18.39 digs per set and 10.45 assists per set.
