PISCATAWAY, N.J. – On Wednesday, March 23, the Rutgers Athletics Community is invited to be part of Rutgers Giving Day, when our global community will unite in a daylong celebration of Rutgers’ excellence. For one day, you can share your Scarlet Pride and support a Rutgers cause, school, or program that feels like home to you. On Rutgers Giving Day, it is not about how much you give; it is about how many of us are giving. It’s about our community rallying to support the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as they grow as students, athletes, and leaders in our community.
In the spirit of sporting competition, R Fund is tracking a Giving Day Athletics Leaderboard and encourages Giving Day donors to make a difference for student-athletes. Throughout March 23, the four Big Ten athletic teams with the most donors will win an extra $8,000, $5,000, $2,500, or $1,000. Last year’s first through fourth place winners were men’s golf, the spirit program, men’s lacrosse, and men’s basketball, respectively.
The Athletics Leaderboard is one of a variety of different fundraising challenges throughout Giving Day. They include hourly, daylong, and social media challenges using #RUGivingDay – all hosted on the Rutgers Giving Day Page. If supporters are unable to make a financial gift, they can still earn money for Rutgers Athletic programs by joining the #RUGivingDay social media challenges and spreading the word.
Matching Rutgers Athletics’ growth – by way of success in competition, increases in academic honors, and the rise of new buildings dedicated to Scarlet Knight student-athletes – R Fund is driving to grow its mark on Rutgers Giving Day. Giving Day in 2021 saw 1,151 donors combining for $755,684 in gifts.
Giving Day participants have the freedom to choose how their gift will make an impact. Gifts can be sent directly to supporters’ favorite program or one of the athletic priority funds, including Rutgers Scholarship Fund, Big Ten Champions Fund, and Scarlet Knights for Life.
