Season Sweep Over the Bears – Stanford Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. – Squaring off for the second time in 48 hours, No. 5 Stanford completed the season sweep over rival California, defeating the Bears 25-23, 25-19, 25-29, Friday, in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (16-3, 8-2 ACC) hit .355 as a team, while holding Cal (10-12, 2-8 ACC) to a .183 clip. The Cardinal registered 44 kills, 39 digs, six aces and 6.0 blocks.

Setter Kami Miner dished out 41 assists and had two digs and two blocks. Libero Elena Oglivie collected 11 digs and had a pair of aces.

Outside hitter Elia Rubin led the team with match-highs of 13 kills and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She hit .462 and tallied three blocks and two aces. Outside hitter Ipar Kurt added 10 kills on a .471 attack percentage and an ace.

Middle blocker Sami Francis recorded nine kills on 19 swings with just one error to hit .421. The senior also notched a match-best four blocks. Opposite Jordyn Harvey chipped in with eight kills, two assists, an ace and a career-high seven digs.  

Freshman middle blocker Lizzy Andrew turned in four kills and a block. Freshman Taylor Yu posted three digs, while senior Anna Pringle had two.

Cal was led by outside hitter Peyton Dejardin’s 11 kills, six digs and two blocks. Outside hitter Maggie Li added nine kills, four digs and had the lone ace for the Bears.

Stanford welcomed back members of its 1994 and 2004 NCAA championship teams for an on-court recognition on Friday. The Cardinal won its ninth straight match versus the Bears.

Up next, the Cardinal hits the road, traveling to Miami on Friday and No. 19 Florida State on Sunday.
