Slovenia secure early spot in women’s qualifier final

Slovenia and Germany’s straight-set victories highlighted Day 5 of the 2024 WPV Sitting Volleyball Final Qualifier for Women, presented by Delin Company, at the Dali International Olympic Sports Centre on Sunday.

The first match saw Japan facing Germany in a gripping encounter, with both teams displaying grit on the court and captivating the audience with their spirited exchange of attacks. Germany emerged victorious in spite of Japan’s best display of offence so far in the competition, logging a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) victory.

The German team demonstrated remarkable composure despite the strong showing of their rivals and executed their plays with cohesion and precision to capitalise the key moments and secure their second win of the tournament. Japan’s performance was commendable as they pushed their European counterparts to their limits in this fiercely contested match.

In the subsequent match, Iran clashed with Slovenia in a crucial showdown, where the latter asserted their dominance early on.

The European side set the tone for a commanding performance throughout the match, and despite a spirited effort from Iran, Slovenia managed to close the match 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 26-24).

Slovenia’s relentless offence and solid defence proved too formidable for their Iranian opponents, as they secured their fourth consecutive win in the tournament and the early spot in the final.

Wrapping up the day’s action was the exhibition match between Thailand and hosts China, The visiting side, eager to gain valuable experience, faced off against the three-time Paralympic gold medallists in a spirit contest.

The Chinese team showcased their class and dominance, delivering a commanding performance to secure a comprehensive 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-8) victory.
