Elizabethtown, Pa.—Elizabethtown College Athletics announced the hiring of EJ Smith as the new Women’s Volleyball Coach and Director of Volleyball.
Smith brings 30 years of experience to Etown. He most recently served an Assistant Director of Prevail Volleyball Club while coaching numerous boys and girl’s teams at the club. Smith also has served in the Admissions department at Lebanon Valley College since 2012, where he has most recently held the title of Director of Admission Recruitment since August 2022.
“We are thrilled to have EJ join our team, as he brings a true passion for the sport of volleyball and an energy that will be contagious,” Elizabethtown College Director of Athletics, Chris Morgan said. “I’m excited for our student-athletes and for the future of Etown volleyball.”
Throughout his time at Lebanon Valley College, Smith has filled several roles within the Admissions Department. In 2007, he started out as an Admission Counselor until 2012 when he was named an Assistant Director of Admission. In 2017, he was promoted to an Associate Director of Admission. Smith has also served as the athletic department liaison throughout his time at the institution.
Smith began his coaching career at Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey as the boys’ and girls’ cross-country coach and eventually track & field coach from 1993-2003. In 2000, he became the first girls’ volleyball team head coach at Roselle, culminating with a non-public state championship in 2006. In 2004, Smith transitioned to the Varsity Boys Volleyball Coach at Roselle.
During his coaching career, Smith has won numerous club tournaments, earned five high school conference championship titles, and established both the boys’ and girls’ varsity volleyball program at Roselle Catholic High School. In 2003 and 2006, he was named the Newark Star Ledger Newspaper Coach of the Year.
