STANFORD, Calif. – No. 10 Stanford ran into a hot-hitting CSUN squad, falling in straight sets on Friday in Maples Pavilion.
The No. 14 Matadors (12-5) hit .474 committing just five hitting errors for the match. The Cardinal (9-7) hit .298 and was out blocked, 4.5 to 2.0, and out dug, 34-26.
Setter Nathan Lietzke controlled the Cardinal offense, dishing out 34 assists to go with two kills, two digs and an ace. Libero Justin Lui collected six digs.
Despite having just three kills in the first two sets, outside hitter Will Rottman led the Cardinal with 12. Outside hitter Kevin Lamp was also in double-figures with 10 kill and had five digs and an ace.
Redshirt junior middle blocker Ethan Hill tallied six kills on .455 hitting, two digs, two blocks and an ace. Freshman opposite Theo Snoey had seven kills on .353 hitting and a team-high seven digs, while Nathaniel Gates added three kills and a dig.
Kyle Hobus had a match-high 14 kills on .379 hitting for CSUN. Lorenzo Bertozzi hit a match-best .667 with 10 kills on 15 errorless swings and eight digs.
Stanford is back in action on Saturday versus No. 6 UC Irvine. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Admission is free.
