Tech Lands No. 7 in AVCA Top 25 – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

LEXINGTON, Ky. Georgia Tech volleyball has been ranked No. 7 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Women’s Poll, the organization announced on Monday. The seven spot ties the fourth highest ranking received by the Yellow Jackets in program history, joining the 2003 and 2020 squads.

Tech remains one of two ACC teams inside the top 10 and one of three in the top 15. Throughout the Jackets’ gauntlet, the White and Gold have already swept No. 15 BYU and faced No. 5 Ohio State, but are also slated to face two more opponents ranked in the current top 15 this season in No. 3 Louisville and No. 12 Pitt. Each of the aforementioned teams reached the NCAA Tournament in 2021 as Louisville and Pitt each advanced to the Final Four while Ohio State and BYU both played into the Sweet 16. The Jackets eliminated the Buckeyes during their Elite Eight run.

Georgia Tech’s selection marks the fifth consecutive appearance in the AVCA’s top 10 dating back to the final rankings of the 2021 season. Georgia Tech has landed in the top 10 each week this season after being tabbed No. 8 at the end of the 2021 season, the highest finish at a season’s end in program history alongside 2003’s Elite Eight team.

Reappearing in the top 25 for the first time since 2005 at No. 12 on Sept. 30, 2020, Tech has since been listed in 42 straight top 25 polls to date.

Georgia Tech remains among the nation’s best after hosting the Georgia Tech Classic, splitting competition in a pair of top 10 matchups. The White and Gold swept previously No. 10 BYU before falling to formerly No. 8 Ohio State in four sets. Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann and graduate middle blocker Breland Morrissette were both named to the Georgia Tech Classic all-tournament team.

As a unit, Georgia Tech is currently fourth in the ACC in kills per set (13.29). Individually, Bergmann currently leads the nation in kills per set (5.54) and points per set (6.33)

Tech has won 64 of its last 77 matches dating back to 2019. The Yellow Jackets have also won 39 of their last 45 matches at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium.

The Jackets will next get back on the road to close out their nonconference slate at Arkansas (7-1) on Thursday at 8 p.m. and at Georgia (8-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
