Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team took a break from the road to return home for an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match on Tuesday. The team hosted the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers.

The first set was close from beginning to end. A kill by Madison Coffey along with points off of two blocks featuring Kamari Jackson and Coffey gave the Lady Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. The team held on to their lead for the next several minutes, using a Sydney Allen service ace and kills by Olivia Miller and Amya Sutton to lead 11-8. Montreat did take the lead for a few moments, leading 17-14 deeper into the set. TWU did not falter though, forcing a 22-22 tie on a Jackson and Megan Lee block assist. A 26-26 tie was broken by Montreat with two straight points, giving the opponents a 28-26 win in the first set.

In the second set, Montreat went ahead in the set 12-5. The team used a scoring rally to cut the lead to four points, making the score 16-12 on a Coffey kill. The team could not keep the momentum on their side though, falling in the second set 25-14.

Much like the first set, the third set was close. A kill by Kali Bowie put the set in an 8-8 tie through the first 16 points. Montreat broke the tie but Tennessee Wesleyan came back to tie the match six times over the next few segments of the match. A kill by Shante Smith gave the Lady Bulldogs a 23-22 lead as the set came close to its end. The opponents scored the next three points to end the match with a 25-23 win and a 3-0 match win.

Sutton led the offense with six kills.
