Vikings Roll at Clarke, Defeat Pride in Four Sets

Dubuque, IA – The Grand View women’s volleyball team hit the road for a conference matchup on Tuesday night this time going up against Clarke University. The Vikings walked away with another critical victory to their resume as they defeated the Pride in four sets with scores of 25-13, 26-24, 27-29, and 25-10.

Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 13

Grand View got off to a slow start to begin the first set as it lost the first four points to open, but immediately bounced back with a 4-0 scoring run of its own. The Vikings were able to break things open a few moments later when they scored seven of a possible eight points to make the score 19-10. Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA) got the momentum going with a kill and Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI) bookended it with a kill of her own to force a Clarke timeout. Following the timeout, the Pride rattled of three consecutive points, but Grand View countered by going on a 6-0 scoring streak to win the set.

Set 2: Grand View University 26 l Clarke University 24

It the second set, the Vikings found themselves down early again as they faced a 6-10 deficit. Grand View was able to pull within a point at the 13-14 mark following a bad set from Clarke, but the Pride never relinquished their lead and even pushed it back to four at 16-20. After a timeout, the Vikings managed to fight their way back into the set by scoring five of six points to the score at 24-24 largely leaning on Beasley to score kills. Grand View then went on to win the following two points to go up 2-0 in the match.

Set 3: Grand View University 27 l Clarke University 29

The Vikings and Pride traded points back and forth to begin the third set until a 5-0 scoring run pushed Grand View ahead, 12-10. The back-and-forth action continued through the middle stage of the set with the Pride eventually drawing a tie at 18-18. However, back-to-back kills from Emily Box (JR/West Point, IA) and Carey saw the Vikings quickly regain its slight lead. Down the stretch, the Pride made it even again at 24-24 and then used that momentum over the next few points to muster a 3-0 scoring streak to claim the set.

Set 4: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 10
