Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team was back on their home floor in James L. Robb Gymnasium on Tuesday. The match came against the Milligan University Lady Buffaloes, an Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent and the final match of the season. 

The first set saw Milligan score the first six points. A service error by the opponents got the Lady Bulldogs on the board and kills by Haylie Peoples and Marjorie Smith made the score 9-4. Gabby Harris saw her kill move the team within three points of the lead with the scoreboard reading 10-7. The points kept falling for both teams, with Ariana Smith and Olivia Bolin adding a few points for TWU. The team could not get enough points to fall in their favor, falling in the first set 25-20.

The second set saw the opposite of the first set as the Lady Bulldogs scored the first four points with the fourth point coming via a Maggie Olson service ace. Points from M. Smith and Aly Grace Lemons moved the team’s lead to 6-2 before a run 6-1 run by the visitors gave the team an 8-7 advantage. Tennessee Wesleyan took back the advantage, scoring four straight points to lead 11-8. After an 11-11 tie, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the visitors 5-1 to take a 16-12 lead. Even though TWU held on to the lead, Milligan came to tie the set one more time at 22-22. The Lady Bulldogs broke the tie and took the set by a score of 25-23, tying the match 1-1.

Three consecutive kills by M. Smith put Tennessee Wesleyan ahead 4-3 in the third set. The lead carried on through the next few points for the team as a kill by Harris made the score 12-8. Midway through the set, Milligan scored seven straight points to put the Lady Bulldogs in a 17-14 deficit. The team could not recover from the rally, falling in the third set 25-16.
