Athens, Tenn.- The volleyball team was back in action in James L. Robb Gymnasium on Tuesday. The team hosted the newcomers to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC), the Johnson University Lady Royals.

Tennessee Wesleyan took the lead in the first set. Kills by Gabby Harris, Marjorie Smith, Haylie Peoples, and Aly Grace Lemons helped the team hold a 9-6 advantage. A few points later, a service ace by Jayda Perry made the lead 16-11. A shift occurred as Johnson came back to tie the set 18-18. An Ariana Smith kill broke the tie, and a block solo by Harris pushed the lead back to two points. The visitors came back to tie the set at 22-22, breaking the tie with the final three points of the set to win it 25-22.

In the second set, neither team created much space. A kill by Madison Coffey put the set in its eighth tie at 9-9. A service ace by Olivia Bolin broke a 10-10 tie, the ninth of the set, and a kill by Olivia Miller a few moments later gave the Lady Bulldogs a 15-12 advantage. Johnson took over the lead after a 16-16 tie, holding on to take a 21-19 lead. TWU did not let the visitors score any more in the set, securing six straight points to take the second set 25-21 and tie the match 1-1.

Similar to the second set, the beginning of the third set was close. A kill by Coffey brought the Lady Bulldogs within one point of the lead with the scoreboard reading 8-7. A 6-2 run by the Lady Royals stopped the momentum and gave the visitors a 14-9 lead. As the set got deeper in, Johnson reached set point with the scoreboard reading 24-20. Tennessee Wesleyan scored the next three points to make the score 24-23 but Johnson scored the 25th point to win the set and take a 2-1 lead.
