Terps Fight Back From 2-0 Deficit, Fall To Indiana In Five Sets

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Terps (9-5, 0-2) battled back remarkably from a 2-0 deficit, but ultimately came up just short against Indiana (8-6, 1-1), falling in five sets 21-25, 16-25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-17).

The opening set was a thrilling, back-and-forth contest with Indiana ultimately coming out on top. Sam Csire led the Terps with a trio of kills in the frame and Rainelle Jones added two blocks and a kill.

After the Hoosiers grabbed the second frame, the Terps battled hard set in the third set and came out on top, even after being down to their final point at one moment in the game.

The Terps took the fourth set in dominant fashion behind 12 kills, 5 blocks and a pair of service aces. Gem Grimshaw poured in four kills in the set and finished the overall match with her best statline as a Terp with seven kills, three digs and two aces.

That brought up the decisive final set where the two teams went back-and-forth in a competitive match. The Terps went down 13-11 at one point, but rallied to tie the game at 11, 13 and 15 points, respectively, before the Hoosiers came out with the win.

Csire led Maryland with 14 kills. Jones, Grimshaw, Laila Ricks and Laila Ivey each chipped in at least seven kills apiece.

The Terps recorded a season-high 23 blocks to Indiana’s 13, continuing their season-long streak of out-blocking their opponents. Maryland has recorded double-digit blocks in 12 of 15 games. Anastasia Russ had the team-high in blocks with seven while Ricks added five.
